You might be interested to know that there's two different kind of posts on this blog: "Thought of the Day" and "Normal". The "Thought of the Day" category is a once-a-day random tidbit, usually a funny video or picture, and the "Normal" is just what you'd expect from a blog like this:

Unicorn-Butterfly Soup.

Thought of the Day- Jobs

I’m really getting tired of hearing “looking for someone more senior” in response.

What does that even mean?  If it’s an age thing- that’s pretty stupid to assume that a 20yr. old can’t be any good (not to mention illegal).  If it’s an experience thing- I have more experience than alot of people many years older than me.

My favorite conversation:  “Great!  You’re exactly what we’re looking for… but, you don’t have any experience in scaling or dealing with high volume situations?” / “No.  But I try to code with those in mind.” / “Right, well see we have [insert intentionally large and inflated number] requests a day… Thanks though.”

Right.  So your average programmer has experience in scaling.  And definitely most of the “I just graduated college” crowd.  One question though:  how are you supposed to get experience in those types of situations, without actually being in one?  Since, you know, no-one will hire you for those situations.

All that aside, why would you even interview and consider me, after looking at my resume?  Either I’m what you want, or I’m not.  Make up your mind and stop wasting my time.

Especially you, recruiters.
