Thought of the Day- Avenging Angelo
I love Stallone. And you can always tell when he’s involved in the writing, even if he’s not listed. What I call “Stallone humor” - dry, weird, and totally deadpan usually with an obscure one liner - shows up. You see it alot when he writes the movies themselves (Rocky and Rambo, for example)… but it comes up elsewhere.
Avenging Angelo is a good example… it’s a mafia movie that’s a little tongue-in-cheek, and Stallone adds his parts.
Three great examples:
- “Welcome to Cooking with Frankie, Brought to you by Baretta” [Stallone hits clam shells with the butt of handgun and gun fires] / “ARE YOU CRAZY!?!” / “Yeah. Just a little.”
- “Now you listen to me, Mr. Mafiapants!” [to Stallone]
- [fart sound from a decomposing dead body] / “What was that?” [to Stallone] / “That? Well. You’ve got a squirrel problem.” / “Squirrels?” / “Yeah, squirrels. You see, they’re beefing up for the winter, eating alot, but they like to be warm and so they get inside the walls. But then they eat too much and can’t get out because they’re stuck… so they have to, you know… deflate.” / “Oh. Ok.”
