Chinese Lies

I have many strong opinions on the state of China, how they deal with issues/people/truth, and the current Olypmics... but this article on the Chinese "women's" gymnastics team sums up most of it.

Oh, the gracious land of the oppressed!

China believes the rest of the world is just as gullible, cow-eyed, and afraid to speak as their native population is.  So it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone when they think problems are solved by just stating they are.

  • Age verification of Chinese athletes with only Chinese created documents?  Check.

  • Proving there's no pollution, just "mist", in Beijing by merely saying so?  Check.

  • Destroying your people's homes and building walls around others, for "state purposes" related to the Olympics, and then pretending like you didn't... when the rest of the world has proof?  Check.

I love the Olympics, but the IOC has failed miserably.  Allowing them to be held in China was the first mistake.

  • How could you even begin to believe all the promises made about the "progress" they'll make before they're held, when China hasn't told a single truth to anyone in years?

  • How could you even imagine that Beijing's pollution problem could be fixed/magically go away in a few short years, let alone when the government pretends like it's not an issue?

Their second mistake is to turn a blind eye to all of this with the intent of not upsetting their gracious hosts.  Do some research and you'll find some interesting stuff.

The IOC refuses to do anything about:

  • Chinese "womens" gymnastics team's age issue

  • the blatant lies about the levels of Beijing's pollution

  • the human rights atrocities committed in preparation for this Olympics (house demolition, house quarantines, indefinite jailtime for protesters/"the unharmonious", etc.)

  • journalistic freedom failure, thanks to watchdogs (both human and computer), the Great Firewall of China, and many other restrictions about what is "harmonious" and allowed

It's not like the world doesn't have Internet connections, or watch non-Chinese media.  The IOC is playing a game of "let's hope they're really stupid", and it's not working.  Funny how China's been doing the same thing for years...

Awesome article. You forgot to mention all the water issues. Did you know that farmers were forced to stop watering crops so that there could be fountains outside of many of the venues. Oh yes. Disgusting ins't it!
Wouldn't want to feed people--nope....gotta save that water for a bunch of visual effects.

I am shocked at all the controversies of this particular Olympics.
  • Hey Kay,

    Thanks!

I didn't know about the "water issues". But I'll poke around and take a look.

If you are "shocked" at these Olympics and very cynical about the Chinese government, you should read the articles by Marina Hyde, a British reporter for The Guardian who has the same fire and attitude I do: http://www.guardian.co.uk/profile/marinahyde

Most western people like you are paranoid when you talking about China. Corruption is everywhere in third world, India definietely beat China.
  • Not content with just one aggressive comment? You had to attack me twice? You must be fun!

Paranoid? I'm not concerned with China overtaking America in any manner. If it comes to a military move, we'll just bomb China into oblivion - population and number of soldiers don't matter in that situation.

But I find their disregard for basic human rights and a "normal" standard of living difficult to swallow, as any person who's grown up with immense freedom and rights will.

Modern Americans have major issues with the sociopolitical situation in China for many of the same reasons Americans of Yesteryear saw Russia as the "big bad guy": disrespecting the common people in order to further a military or political agenda that only benefits a small contingent of people, who disregard the same rules and regulations they so brutally enforce throughout their country.

Also, where the hell did India come into this? And they "beat" China in... what, exactly?

You can't provide evidence to the contrary for any of this. So, next time, Mr. Outspoken Kiwi? Pick a fight you can win. And don't put Americans in a corner...

    We always win.

In the so-called evidence found by Stryde Hax. That “He Kexin” in "evidence" screenshot showing that girl is from Wuhan of Hubei provence, however the “He Kexin” in the Olympic game is from Beijing. Yes, another WMD is found.
  • Hi zy,

Thanks for commenting on the article that *doesn't* mention Stryde Hax, and arguing against it here. It really helps keep the continuity up.

What you're referencing is actually: http://www.kyle-brady.com/2008/08/20/chinese-li...

And if you look at the new evidence that Stryde found [http://strydehax.blogspot.com/2008/08/day-after-day-after.html], you'll see that there is an entry for someone with that name, born 1/1/94, from Beijing.

    Thanks for playing.

I agree completely! I've lived in China and I can tell you first hand that corruption among the government officials is rampant there. Considering that Stryde Hax has obtained proof that the Chinese gymnasts are underage, I think that someone ought to start a "FAX the IOC" campaign to express outrage and to urge the IOC to investigate this age scandal, at the very least.
  • Thanks for the input!

But... I have to ask. What would "FAX" stand for? Don't get me wrong, I think something needs to be done, but I have no idea where you would be going with this... ;-)

  • Is anyone going to hold China to account on the promises it made that hosting the Olympics would improve human rights in China?

It must not forcibly return North Korean refugees to their country where their lives are in danger. Just like it must let people practice whatever religion they choose, it must let journalist go about their business without censorship, it must tell peaceful human rights defenders go about their business, it must let ethnic minorities to express their culture.

  • That's what I was getting at.

I have a major problem with China's government, but even moreso that the IOC and other organizations "overlook" the lies and deceit, when millions of Americans and Europeans are screaming in outrage of the injustices.
