Hey Gibbs,

You know what they say - "if you're pissing people off, you're doing something right", so I'm glad you took the time to comment. ;-)

But, in all seriousness, I don't necessarily disagree with your points. FOX News is not the problem, the problem is the people that listen to, believe, and allow FOX News to influence their political views/decisions.

The point of this piece, if you read it carefully, is not to point fingers at the Republicans, but to point out that they need to change from being the party of illiterate, racist, screaming people. Our current situation is a mixed bag, partially Dem, partially Rep, but the GOP party-line of deregulation is ultimately the biggest problem we've had over the last decade, and continue to face as we struggle to pull ourselves out of this hole. It's the Republican Congressionals who scream about the government being too involved and regulation whenever we try to take steps forward to safeguard the banking industry, etc.

At the same time, you don't give Obama enough credit - he's been in office for less than 7 months. I don't agree with all he's done, but he's at least taken steps to address as many major issues as possible in a short amount of time, and for that he should be commended. For example, he's not standing by letting things fall, but is in fact taking a hardline against the healthcare situation, pushing through against the AMA, angry rich white people, etc.

Finally, I'm not saying the Republican Party can't rise to power again, but that if they keep up their current pace of rhetoric, idiocy, and scandals, they'll end up having to radically change in order to just even continue to exist. Despite your own personal views, the reality is that the younger generations absolutely do not identify with the Republican ideals - over time, this will become a larger problem as the GOP doesn't have a backing in what is essentially the core votership of the future.

Hope that helps clarify a bit. If you really want to see that I'm not pointing fingers at the Republicans, but politics in general, take a look at some of my other OpEd pieces:
http://www.kyle-brady.com/2009/06/18/healthcare...
http://www.kyle-brady.com/2009/06/11/the-decima...
http://www.kyle-brady.com/2009/06/15/the-obama-...
http://www.kyle-brady.com/2009/05/07/us-broadba...

Hope you're still Gibbsfunking it up.

--Kyle

Do not make the assumption that just because the Republican line is not working now does not mean it will not work in the future. To many times Americans have reverted back to old party lines when the new progressive thinking did not work. Granted progressive views have worked to keep the economy stable and give hope to people, but it has historically been Republican ideas that have stimulated and incorporated growth into the economy. FDR considered probably one of the greatest American presidents enacted so many socialist (democratic) policies, but it was inevitably war that helped us. You being from Maryland know that the Democrats had run the state for nearly 40 years, and produced one of the largest state deficits. However when a Republican was put in office all his proposals were stonewalled, just to be re-used by the Democrat who replaced him. 2/3 of millionaires have left Maryland in the past year due to the Democrat party lines. Do not think that Republicans are solely responsible for stonewalling the President, Democrats are there too. My favorite political stance line has always been what is a Democrat and the simple answer is that their not a Republican. Republican's for a majority stick together along pillars of party line, where as Democrats have so many things within the scope of what they believe, it is hard to see what they themselves stand for. You blame the economy on the past President, but yet it was Bill Clinton's deregulation of mortgages 90 days before leaving office that allowed the housing market to crash. It was a Democratic Congressional oversight committee the stated, "Regulating the banks is like telling a grown man to wear the same suit he did when he was 12." (So lets give them 350 billion dollars to bail them out and have no idea where it goes) Please do not look at our party through solely the commentators that are within the public eye. Rush is an idiot to me and he is chasing many of the progressive Republicans, or future Republicans out of the party with his ideological rhetoric. Do not assume that idiocy runs solely on the Republican side there are ample examples to point out in the Democratic party as well, you are just solely watching the news and interpreting it on your terms. I don't take John Stewart, and Bill Maher as the spokes people for the Democratic party and use their personal ideas as the party lines. I did not vote for Obama, but i hope that he does well he is my president and the foremost representation of this country. However, if he keeps standing back doing nothing. If he continually keeps working on his public image, and being on TV every waking moment of everyday; he might as well just get his own HBO special. He was suppose to be the representation for the gays, but yet has done nothing. He was suppose to give us public health care, and now says it can't be done. He was suppose to pull us out from oversees and yet still can not come up with a definitive plan. In fact his first night in office he bombs Pakistan. You say that it is the Republican's that are having troubles trying to find a direction, but if Obama continues along this path of no action your Democratic Party will need to have a greater direction finding in 4 years with this continuation of a Lame Duck President. (You have the Presidency, Congress, the Senate, and yet you can't get anything past, do not blame this on the Republican's you are having issues in and of yourself.)
