I'm not saying planes are the “end all, be all”, but that nextgen ones are important to have. Not that the F-22 was a magic solution either.

The premise of this was a defense of nextgen weaponry and vehicles R&D, not a defense of the F-22, because of the trends in the last few years to cancel or drastically reduce budgets of anything that won't help Middle Eastern-style warfare.

And that worries me.

Nuclear submarines on indefinite patrol throughout the world). That means that after the United States is decimated to look like something from Fallout 3 we will still have roughly 2500 Nukes to warm this planet over with. When it really comes down to it the ultimate superweapon IS nuclear weapons....those F22's (and any other non EMP hardened equipment) would drop from the sky (or simply stop working) after a EMP blast.
